Olivera Joseph J 620830 p1 Patterson Man Accident Victim; A Patterson man was killed when a tractor he was loading on a trailer fell on him. Joseph James Olivera, 55, died at Memorial Hospital from multiple rib fractures and other internal injuries. An autopsy was ordered by Coroner Morris Feldman. Three passerbys witnessed the accident which occurred on East River Road in South Modesto. They lifted the tractor and pulled Olivera out but they estimated that he was pinned for at least five minutes. He had been discing and was attempting to load the tractor on a low trailer when it toppled over on him. He was employed by Mike Mattos, a commercial bailing firm of Patterson and a company spokesman said that the dead man had loaded the tractor on the same trailer "hundreds of times". Mr. Olivera had been employed by the firm for seven years. A native of Santa Maria, Mr. Olivera had been an agricultural worker in the Patterson area for almost 15 years. He was a member of the Patterson IDES Council. He is survived by his widow Mary and a son, Joseph, Jr. of Patterson; his mother, Mrs. Filomena Olivera of Santa Maria; three brothers, Frank and Manuel of Tranquillity and Edward of Ceres. He also leaves four sisters; Mary Borges of Ripon, Margaret Azevedo, Mabel Simas, and Minnie Silva all of Santa Maria. A requiem mass was conducted last Monday at the Sacred Heart Church in Patterson. He was buried in St Mary's Cemetery with Father H. J. Beutler officiating. Funeral arrangements were conducted by the Evans Funeral Chapel.
