Gene Olson, 101;  A grave side service was held Monday afternoon at Patterson District Cemetery for a former Patterson
resident.  Gene Olson died last Thursday at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital in Modesto. She was 101.  She lived in
three centuries, having been born July 21, 1899, at home in the Escalon area. She graduated from Modesto High School
in 1917, then briefly attended College of the Pacific in Stockton before graduating from Munson Secretarial School in
San Francisco.  She worked as a legal secretary for several years in Stockton and San Francisco before marrying Arthur
Olson of Patterson. She was a homemaker most of her married life.  The Olsons lived in Alameda until 1956, then moved
to Patterson.  After the death of her husband in 1968, she moved to Escalon, living in the old von Glahn home on South
Van Allen Road. She moved into Parkview Christian Estates Retirement Center in Modesto in 1987, then to English Oaks
Convalescent Hospital in 1999.  She was always active in church functions wherever she lived and was an active member
of the Escalon Presbyterian Church.  Survivors include a niece, Joan Thatcher of Santa Rosa, and a nephew and care
giver, Ray Richter of Modesto.  Remembrances should be sent to the Escalon Presbyterian Church, 1612 First St..
