Vescere James V 000803 p10 James Vincent Vescere, 77; Services will be held tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday for tines Vincent Vescere of Patterson who died Tuesday, Aug. at Brandel Manor in Turlock. He was 77. Visitation will be tomorrow from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel. A Mass will be said Saturday at 9 am at Sacred Heart Catholic church. Burial will follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman. A native of Worcester, Mass., he lived in Patterson for 5 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years, serving for many of those years as Crows Landing postmaster. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church here and was a member of the St. Anthony celebration, the SES, the UPEC, and ICF. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Society in Los Banos. A member of Lions Club, he was also a volunteer firefighter, and served as scoutmaster in the 1950s and 1960s. He was instrumental in starting a baseball program and many other youth activities in Crows Landing. Vescere was a member of the FDES in Patterson, Crows Landing and Stevinson, and he cooked for many of the lodges and fiestas on the West Side. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Helena Vescere of Patterson; his children, Vic Vescere of Charlotte, NC, and Mary Zontine of Turlock; his brothers, Pat Vescere, Frank Vescere and Shack Vescere, all of Massachusetts; and two grandchildren.
