John �Jack  Vierra, 77;  Final rites were held Monday in Hilmar for well-known John "Jack" Vierra, 77.  He died last
Wednesday at Brandel Manor in Turlock.  He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where a Mass was held
Monday morning.  Burial was in Turlock Memorial Park.  Whitehurst Norton Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Delhi, he was active in numerous organizations including the Merced County Sheriffs mounted posse, SES
San Gabriel Council No. 18 of Stevinson, YMI Holy Rosary No. 44 of Hilmar, Luso American of Turlock, and UPEC of
Turlock.  He served as a trustee of the Hilmar Unified School District for 12 years and was a past president of the
Stevinson Pentecost Association, and also a member of St. Mary s Catholic Church in Stevinson.  Survivors include his
wife, Lorraine Vierra of Turlock; five sons, Johnny of Seattle, Patrick of Turlock, Michael of New Mexico, and Gregory
and Raymond Vierra, both of Stevinson; three daughters, Joanne Fuss and Theresa Rodgers, both of Santa Cruz, and
Patricia Baptista of Stevinson; two stepsons, Brian Costa of Turlock and Dan Costa of Modesto; 17 grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren; and five brothers, Manuel of Vernalis, Joe of Livingston, Tony of Hilmar, Frank of Hilmar, and
Serafim "Finny" Vierra of San Diego.
