A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today for Vernalis resident Guadalupe Barajas Villafana, 84, who died
Saturday at her home.  Mrs. Villafana was a native of Tenamaxtlan, in Jalisco, Mexico, and she had lived in Vernalis 16
years. She was a homemaker who was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Patterson and St. Jude's Church in Ceres.
She had worked as a custodian at Patterson High School and as a farm worker on the West Side.  She is survived by 10
children, Alfredo Villafana of Patterson, Isidro Villafana of Grayson, Gabriel Villafana of Westley, Miguel Villafana of
Westley, Mary R. Estrella of Patterson, Rita Ortega of Westley, Margarita Lopez of El Salatillo, Mexico, Irene Perez of
Livingston, Irma Jara of Vernalis, and Judith Covarrubias of Ceres; 38 grandchildren; and 57 great grandchildren.  She
was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Villafana, in 1963. A rosary was recited on Tuesday. Today's Mass will
begin at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 529 I St., Patterson.  Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery.
