The National Society of the Children of  the American Revolution, founded in 1895, is the oldest patriotic organization for youths in our country.  Membership is open to descendents of patriots of the American Revolution.

The age range is birth to twenty-one.  Meetings and activities are planned for all ages with special consideration given to younger members.

Members gain invaluable leadership experience in conducting meetings, following parlimentary procedures and standard protocol, serving as delegates and speaking before groups at local, state, and national conferences.

     John Reynolds, of Norwich Ct., served as a musician in the Revolutionary War.
     He enlisted in the spring of  1776, at the tender age of 15.  Along with his two brothers, Simeon and Gamaliel, John joined Col. John Durkee's Fourth Regiment.  On March 9, 1777, John renlisted to serve for the duration of the war.  He was promoted to Sergeant on January 1, 1780, and served in Captain Jedediah Hyde's Company.  
Sergeant John Reynolds was discharged on June 7, 1783, his discharge papers were signed by General George Washington.
     It is family tradition that John Reynolds fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill, and it is documented that he suffered injuries to his ear and leg during the Battle of Long Island.

     Sgt. John Reynolds is the patriot ancestor of several of our members .  We are proud to honor him by naming our local C.A.R. Society after this young man who faithfully served his country during it's fight for independence.
