The Kern County Genealogical Society provides volunteers to staff the Genealogy Room in the Beale Memorial Library, which is located at 701 Truxtun Avenue in downtown Bakersfield, CA. It was organized in March 1964 for the purpose of helping people learn about Genealogy and to aid them in their genealogy research. The volunteers hours are 1PM to 4 PM Monday, and 11AM to 4PM Tuesday through Saturday. The library provides access to Internet based genealogy sites on two computers in the Genealogy Room; one is for use by the volunteers to research genealogy queries and the other is for use by patrons who are familiar with how to do computer based research. The Society also regularly purchases genealogy books with money from dues, donations and fund raisers. These are then donated to the Beale Library for use in the Genealogy Room, and are entered into the Library's electronic catalogue.
KCGS members interested in being a volunteer in the Genealogy Room at the Beale Library please contact Dee Dahleen, Volunteer Coordinator, in the Genealogy Room on Fridays between 11AM and 4PM at (661) 868-0773 for more information. The next Volunteer Orientation session for all prospective library volunteer's will be held 3PM Saturday, 11 Oct 2014 at the Beale Library. For more information and other volunteer opportunities call the Beale Library at (661) 878-0745.
