KCGS The Kern County Genealogical Society provides volunteers to staff the Genealogy Room in the Beale Memorial Library, which is located at 701 Truxtun Avenue in downtown Bakersfield. It was organized in March 1964 for the purpose of helping people learn about Genealogy and to aid them in their genealogy research. The volunteers hours are from 1-4 PM Tuesday through Saturday. The library provides access to Ancestry Library Edition and other Internet based genealogy sites on two computers in the Genealogy Room; one is for use by the volunteers to answer patrons questions and the other is for use by patrons who are familiar with computer based research. The Society also regularly purchases genealogy books with money from dues, donations and fund raisers. These are then donated to the Beale Library for use in the genealogy room, and entered into the Library's electronic catalogue. *************************************************************************************************************************** It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of fellow KCGS member Annette (Del Rio) Oradat on 2 Feb 2012 after a brief illness. She she was an enthusiastic volunteer for the KCGS in the Genealogy Room at Beale Memorial Library almost from the beginning of her association with our society. We will miss her friendly demeanor and bright smile. Services were held on 6 Feb 2012 at Basham Funeral Care. Any members who would like to express their condolences to the family thru a card may bring them to the Genealogy Room at Beale Library, or to our next monthly meeting, and the cards will be passed along to the family. ****************************************************************************************************************************************** Don't miss the the next installment of Season 3 of WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 8PM on CBS.
