dotSan Fernando Pioneer Memorial Cemetery (Morningside Cemetery)
This is the second oldest cemetery in the San Fernando Valley and is located at 14451 Bledsoe Street in Sylmar, CA 91342. The last burial was in 1929, and it became California State Historical Landmark #753 in 1961. The San Fernando Valley Historical Society is currently in charge, and has it open to the public the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to Noon. A complete roster of burials is available at the web site of the San Fernando Valley Historical Society.

The original Mission cemetery began in 1798 and the last burial was in 1852. There are over 1,000 Native Americans named in the registers, but Spaniards and others were buried there also. The current cemetery is adjacent to the old one and is part of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The burials began there in 1952.

This cemetery was established in 1922 and holds over 2400 graves, among them, the remains of many of the founders of the Sunland-Tujunga area. For years it was abandoned and vandalized and today it is closed to the public. The only known register is incomplete and primarily covers people buried in the 1970's. This cemetery is located in West Los Angeles, not the San Fernando Valley, but it is probable that many veterans who lived in the San Fernando Valley are buried there. The first burials were in 1889 when the cemetery was established for patients of the Veterans Hospital. It eventually became a National Cemetery open to any veteran.
