dotThe San Fernando Valley Genealogical Society extracted (over a period of years) vital records from old newspapers published in the San Fernando Valley. All four volumes, of information from 1911 to 1945, have now been published and you can view the index of names with the extracted information at their web site. These Vital Records, such as births, marriages and deaths are from the following newspapers.

  • Lankershim Laconic and Lankershim Press 1911-1925
  • Lankershim Press and North Hollywood Press 1926-1934
  • North Hollywood Press and San Fernando Valley Times 1935-1940
  • The San Fernando Valley Times 1941-1945

There is an on-line search capability for some of the more recent information in the Archives of the Los Angeles Times. You can search the Obituary Section. You can also call "Times on Demand" during business hours. (800) 788-8804. They charge for in depth research and reprinting. The Newspaper started publication in 1881. California State University Northridge has all of the issues on Microfilm in the Oviatt Library.
