A Message from Our Chapter

We are delighted to learn that you are interested in the DAR and in the La Jolla Chapter in particular. The attractions of the DAR are in the fundamentals of the organization: historic preservation, service to our community, genealogical research, promotion of education, commitment to the ideals of our country, patriotic endeavors, and a fellowship of "Daughters" of all ages. The DAR is special amongst patriotic societies as the largest, and our national headquarters is the largest group of buildings in the world owned and operated exclusively by women. The DAR has hundreds of women in leadership positions in the chapter, state, and national levels. It is an organization in which the abilities and talents of women are recognized and utilized.

The La Jolla Chapter is special. Our daughters have diverse occupations: working professionals, business owners, educators, domestic engineers, volunteers, military, college students, and retirees. Daughters under the age of 36 enjoy a special status as Junior members in the Society. Junior members have the same benefits as regular members; however, they have the opportunity to participate in additional activities on the state and national levels. La Jolla Chapter has an active group of Junior members. Several members serve the District XIV, California State Society, and the National Society in leadership positions. We are active in La Jolla and San Diego. La Jolla Chapter members have won many awards on the State and National levels.

Genealogy is an important interest in the DAR. Many members have spent years working on documenting their family histories. Other members benefit by being able to connect to their mother's or grandmother's established lines. Our chapter assists prospective members to explore their family trees and complete their application papers. Interested in knowing who our patriot ancestors are? We have a patriot roster on line - let us know if you think you're related to one of us!

We welcome all members and applicants to join us for our regular meetings. Our meetings are held on the first Saturday of the month to be convenient for our working members and others who have busy weekday schedules. Our membership is very varied, and we have many members throughout the San Diego area. We would like you to visit us at one of our chapter meetings and become acquainted. If you're thinking of joining the DAR, please let us know --we'd love to show you more!
