CanadaGenWeb's Cemetery Project is part of the CanadaGenWeb Project which is a volunteer-run "non-profit" project to find and make genealogical records freely available. To learn more about CanadaGenWeb please visit our main website.

CanadaGenWeb's Cemetery Project was established in 2003 and debuted on the internet in 2004. Our goal is to find and list all known Canadian cemeteries. As we've grown we've added information to help genealogists learn more about each cemetery.

This database is one that has been built by contributions from visitors. We grow as you submit information and we'll continue to grow with your support.

The goals of this project are:

  • To locate every cemetery in Canada (street address; Township; Lot & Concession; GPS)

  • To provide information about every cemetery (date of first interment; whether closed, private or still accepting interments; etc.)

  • To provide locations of cemetery transcripts, indexes and photos (links to those online; purchase information for those offline)

  • To make the project as searchable as possible. Cemeteries will be searchable by name of cemetery; Each province and territory will have a surname index; Indexes for transcripts are welcome to be added to the search as well.

    We currently offer:

  • A list of over 16,000 known cemeteries located in Canada (with your help we can add more!)

  • The location of these cemeteries and the history of as many as possible

  • Links to and information about transcripts, indexes & photographs offered throughout CanadaGenWeb & elsewhere as known*

  • Offers of lookups & links to lookups offered elsewhere as known

    Please Note: This project is classified as "in progress" -- we do not yet have information on every Canadian cemetery, but with your help this can be accomplished. If you know of a cemetery not yet listed here please submit the information to the appropriate province/territory. Thanks!

    * If you have a transcript, index or photographs of a Canadian cemetery available online or for purchase offline, just send us the link and we'll direct our visitors to your site.

    To submit information, click on the Province the link relates to and contact the co-ordinator for that area.
