Holland, Edward James Gibson
1878-1948
While serving with the Royal Canadian Dragoons, Sgt. Holland won the Victoria Cross during fighting at Leliefontein on 7 November 1900. He held off the Boers with his Colt Machine gun until he ran out of ammunition. Then, to be sure the gun did not fall into Boer hands, he lifted the burning hot barrel off and rode away with it under his arm
