HELPFUL ABBREVIATIONS
The following abbrevations should be found helpful as you read records produced by others, or as you prepare your owns. Although these are not necessarily all official, they are getting to be fairly universal.

    g. = grand used with another relationship; as in g.father Grandfather / g.dau = granddaughter}
    g.g. = great grand {g.g.father = great grandfather}
    2 g.g. = 2nd great grand {number denotes the number of "greats" there should be before the grand. This shortens the space neaded to record and makes the generations clearer. / 4 g.g.father = great great great great grandfather}
    h/o = husband of
    husb. = husband
    o = of
    s = son
    s/o = son of
    sis = sister
    sis/o = sister of
    w = wife
    w/o = wife of
    wid = widow
    wid/o = widow of
    widr = widower
    widr/o = widower of
    yr = year
    yrs = years
    mo = month
    mos = months
    dy = day > or write in full
    dys = days > or write in full
    & = in place of and
    [ ] = use to denote a question / with or without the question marks inside it
    { } = usually a recorders note / item not in the reference
    ( ) = items in the reference / such as a maiden name that is in a bracket in the reference.

    Dates = day/month/year
    Months should have a three letter abv. = Years should be written with full four digets.
    This prevents having to use punctuation marks, plus the numbers are separated, thus less prone to errors.

    Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / Jun / Jul / Aug / Sep / Oct / Nov / Dec
    {ie: 10 Jan 1999 / 10 Sep 1999 etc.}
