This is the last will and testament of me Michael Rice of Saint Johnís in the Island of Newfoundland Fisherman I give and bequeath all my household furniture and other household effects unto my wife Bridget Rice absolutely save and except my bedstead bed and bedding which I bequeath unto my nephew William Rice. I give devise and bequeath the whole of my freehold estate whatsoever and wheresoever of which I may die possessed unto my said wife Bridget Rice during her life time and upon her death I give devise and bequeath the said freehold estate unto my nephews namely John Rice, James Rice, Patrick Rice, Morgan Rice and William Rice share and share alike. I give and bequeath unto my nieces namely Johanna Fogarty, widow of Thomas Fogarty (residing in Northern Bay Conception Bay) Alice Sacry wife of William Sacry (residing at the south side of Harbor Grace) Mary Rice daughter of my deceased brother Patrick Rice and Theresa Woodrow wife of Richard Woodrow the sum of fifteen pounds currency to each of them out of such monies deposited in my name in the Savings Bank in Saint Johnís aforesaid to be paid to them as soon after my decease as conveniently may be. I give and bequeath unto my sister-in-law Mary Rice widow of my said brother Patrick Rice the sum of fifteen pounds currency out of such monies in the said Savings Bank standing in my name to be paid to her as soon after my decease as conveniently may be. I give and bequeath unto my old friend James Farrell Senior of Boggy Hall Topsail Road the sum of ten pounds out of such sums standing in my name in the said Savings Bank to be paid to him as soon after my decease as conveniently may be. After the payment of all funeral and testamentary expenses and just debts I give and bequeath unto my wife Bridget Rice the residue of such said monies deposited in my name in the said Savings Bank for her absolute use and benefit. And I hereby revoke all previous wills by me at any time heretofore made. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this twenty seventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three. Michl Rice.
