|BURT||Your census report for 1670 for Carbonear lists Roger Burt. The name is Rodger Butt. I noticed this in the records at the Nfld Archives. It is the Berry Census. It was done several times. I believe that these documents were transcribed from the originals. At ant rate , in one it is written as Burt, but all the others say Butt. Also the Gower's plantation records put Butts in the area of Rodger Butt's plantation in Crockers Cove. Another Rodger Butt shows up as having fishing rooms in 1770 that he inherited from his father....no doubt the earlier Rodger's descendant and namesake. I have also read a paper presented to Nfld Historical Society on the Butt family name which maintains that BUTT maybe a single stemmed family all descended from this Rodger Butt. Alsoo, it is quoted in the book Family Names of Newfoundlan, ie Rodger Butt, planter, Crcokers Cove 1670. Please correct this error as it will greatly confuse researchers using the Internet only.||Bruce Butt|
