Transcriber Notes:

The presence of Daniel in this particular parish register entry, although somewhat anomalous, given that Daniel is not a recognizable NL Mc family name, can be explained as either a misprint of the surname Bumbo [Benoit], as if reflecting Susan Daniel (Bumbo); cf. Susan Bumbo [Benoit] [nee John] wife of Daniel Bumbo as listed in a Burin RC entry dated August 1843. The presence of a David Bumbo, a possible sibling or cousin of Daniel, on July 24 as a sponsor to the baptism of Madeline John (of Peter John & Mary Brazelle) along with Sarah John as cosponsor makes this explanation seem plausible.

The patronym Jow (sic.) appears to be an obvious variant of the common contemporary NL Mc family name Joe, as a truncation or shortening of earlier attested Joseph, with an implied connection to the family name Sylvester/Silvester.

The Mc family name Sulian (sic.) as attested here in this form appears to be a variant of Julian/Julien.

As noted above Silvester (sic.) is also written as Sylvester (sic.) in other non-published parish records. William Paul listed here may be the same as John William Paul, b. 1854 Burgeo [1921 NL census], F. G. Speck's principal informant-guide, and presumed brother of Santu Toney, daughter of Kop, one of the last known Beothuk survivors.

The Mc family name Frances is also found in other church records as Francis, Francois, and sometimes Frank respectively.

The Mc surname Pal (sic.) is either a misspelling the commonly attested hereditary NL family name Paul.

The NL Mc family name Christopher may have survived as late as 1878 or later in Newfoundland. Note the presence of a Mi'kmaw hunter Louis Christopher with an account in the Newman Little Bay Ledgers 1790-1. Another variant of this surname includes Christoph, an ancient hereditary chief line of Nova Scotia with presumed onnections to the Tomma/Thomas & Googoo patrilines.

As with the attested variant Jow (sic.) above, this form of the hereditary family name Joe is an obvious attempt by the parish record-keeper to phonetically render this surname.
