Will of Charles Murdoch


I Charles Murdoch of the City of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Banker, do make and publish this my last will and testament. I direct that all my just debts be paid by my executrix hereinafter named as soon after my decease as can conveniently be done. I give and devise to my wife Eliza Murdoch the dwelling house and property on the eastern side of Pleasant Street in said City of Halifax where I now reside and which I purchased from William Esson, with all my household furniture of every description including plate, pictures and books To have and to hold to her her heirs and assigns to her and their sole use benefit and behoof forever. I also give and devise to my said wife Eliza the annuity or yearly sum of twelve hundred pounds sterling money of Great Britain for and during the term of her natural life- And I do hereby direct that the same shall be charged on my estate real and personal and that it shall be paid to my said wife by four equal quarterly payments of three hundred pounds each free from all deductions on the ninth days of August, November, February and May in each and every year the first payment to begin and be made on such of said days as shall next happen after my decease.

I give and devise to my sisters Margaret Miller, widow of the late William Miller, and Eliza Murdoch Ten thousand pounds sterling each. I give and devise the whole of the residue and remainder of my estate real and personal of every description to my two nephews William Miller and Robert Miller their heirs and assigns forever to be divided equally between them I authorise and empower my executrix hereinafter named if she shall deem it advisable to sell the whole or any portion of my real estate in such way as she shall consider most advantageous and to execute and deliver the necessary deed or deeds to the purchaser or purchasers who shall not be obliged to see to the due and proper application of the proceeds. I nominate and appoint my said wife Eliza Murdoch sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all wills and codicils by me heretofore made. In testimony whereof I have hereto subscribed my name this ninth day of August one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.
