    BURTON'S 
      POND - A mining settlement on north side of Green Bay, district of 
      Twillingate and Fogo. A copper mine was opened here in the autumn of 1860, 
      with every prospect of good success; there are over 50 miners employed at 
      present. Distant from Tilt Cove 10 miles by boat, from Twillingate by boat 
      50 miles. Mail fortnightly. Population 40.
