Will of John Samuel Farnell

In re: JOHN SAMUEL FARNELL. DECEASED.

Corner Brook
Bay of Islands
Sept 10th/23.

The last will and testament of John Samuel Farnell, Lumberman of Corner Brook, Bay of Islands, made this Tenth day of September Anno Domini One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty Three.

I Samuel Farnell do hereby give unto my sister Mabel Lush, that piece or parcel of land numbered VII on plan attached.

The residue of the land numbered from I to VI, and VIII to XII inclusive on the plan attached I leave to my Eleven children, each child to receive one block, to be allotted according to the decision of my wife. The balance of the land mentioned on Grant Number 14069 dated December 24th 1915, (from which above blocks from I to XII have been above mentioned,) I leave, & give unto my wife Sarah. The house and land to be built and conveyed unto me according to agreement between John Samuel Farnell and the Newfoundland Power and Paper Company Limited, I leave, & give unto my wife Sarah.

I hereby convey unto my daughter Myrtle Critch that piece or parcel of land situate on the South Side of the Humbermouth, Curling Road and bounded as follows on the North by the said road and running thereby a distance of Sixty feet on the West by a reserved road Thirty feet wide adjoining land sold to Sydney Blake, and running in a Southerly direction by the side and at a distance of Thirty feet from property of said Sydney Brake a distance of Feet, From thence in an Easterly direction by the side of a reserved road a distance of Sixty feet, from thence in a Northerly direction to the place of commencement.

I hereby convey unto my wife Sarah all that piece or parcel of land bounded on the West by the land mentioned above conveyed unto Myrtle Critch, and running by the side of the said land from the Humbermouth Curling Road to a reserved road on the South, a distance feet, from thence in an Easterly direction by the side of the above mentioned reserved road, and to connect unto the land sold to Norman Fisher, from thence in a Northerly direction by the side of the said Norman Fisher properties unto the Government road from Humbermouth to Corner Brook, & running by the side of the said road to the place of commencement.

I hereby convey unto my said wife Sarah all that piece or parcel of land bounded as follows, on the North by the Curling Humbermouth Road, on the East by Norman Fisherís properties mentionen above, on the South by the reserved road mentioned above, and on the East by property owned by Nicholas OíNeil.

I hereby convey unto my sons John Alexander, Edward Stanley Canfield, and William Seward Ross, all that land situated at Steady Brook, & near the Humber River mentioned on Government Grant Number 10255, dated April 2 1904, said land to be divided equally between said sons, location of each lot to be decided by my wife Sarah.

I hereby convey unto my wife Sarah all my interest in the mortgage on the house Number 6 Sudbury St. St. Johnís. I also convey unto my wife Sarah all my money in the Bank of Montreal, Curling, in my House or whatever money may be due me from any sourse whatever, all the money, and the proceeds of the mortgage to be used for the educating of my children, and the general care of my wife and family.

I hereby convey unto my wife Sarah, all the furniture and Household effects, excepting the Organ, which is now the property of my daughter Myrtle Critch.

I hereby convey unto my son John Alexander my Horse, harness, Cart, plows, and all other farming material tools.

I hereby convey unto Edward Stanley Canfield my Motor boat, and Engine.

Should my wife Sarah marry again all of the property or money left to her is to be equally divided among my children.
Any property such as mill property or any other thing being my property, and not mentioned in this will is to be sold, and the proceeds given to my wife Sarah.

I do hereby nominate Joseph Fisher, son of Christopher Fisher, of Corner Brook, and Owen Brown Business Manager of Humbermouth to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
