(Translation by Leo Doucet)

The first Benoit came to Bay St. George about 1850. Luc, George, Paul and Isaac all came from Arichat, Cape Breton. The first three had married three sisters: Elisabeth, Victoire and Séraphie LeBlanc from Margaree. Isaac remained for some time in Bay St. George and then went to establish himself at Grand-Rivière. The name of his wife is unknown for us. His descendants can still be found in Grand-Rivière, speaking English and Scottish. The descendants of Paul can be found in Bay-d’Espoir speaking English. The descendants of Luc and George are of great number in Bay St. George, usually speaking French until the third generation and then several of them married English persons so that their children did not learn French.
