Transcriber Notes:
1 Noel Michell here may be Noel (Michel) Agathe listed in numerous historical references and parish registers for Sandy Point, Bay St. George's. If so, he may be the brother of Jean Michel Agathe (or John Mitchell/Jean Michael/Joe Migwell/Miguell) born ca. 1814, and married ca. 1834 to (Marie) Louise?. The latter said John Mitchell as listed in this and other Wolf Killing Act Returns is assumed to be the same John Michell listed in numerous business directories, cenuses and historical accounts as living at Codroy, Freshwater [Bonavista Bay], Gaultois, Conne River and Indian Cove (Pike Place), Piper's Hole, Placentia Bay. Identifying Piper's Hole as a place of residence derives from an historical narrative titled "Indian Scrape", narrated to Richard S. Dahl by Newfoundland Mi'kmaw elder John Barrington, in the Summer of 1914, then living at Indian Cove (Pike Place), Piper's Hole, detailing the trek of "Old John Mitchell, Micmac Indian from Conne River" to Piper's Hole [ca. 1824-1832]. Mr. Barrington went on to say "Joe could not get home [Piper's Hole] before dark,…." (Dahl 1914:32) implying that he had a home or residence there, and perhaps family. Source: Dahl, Richard S. 1914. "Indian Scrape", in Newfoundland Quarterly (No. 2), p. 32. In addition to the John (Baptiste), Bernard (Pekitualuet), Barrington, Martin (Algoumartinuck?) and Mitchell (Agathe), there is one reference to a Jeddore family member from Conne River having been born at the ancient Mi'kmaw village of Nukamkia'ji'jk.

2 Note that both Lewis John (b. ca. 1826) and John Brazil listed above in sharing a license may have been related through extended kinship ties. It is not known if this is the Lewis John married to Esther Poulet as listed in the Burin and Fortune RC records (ca. 1836-1859, or Lewis John son of Peter John (of Baptiste?) and Mary Brazil. The latter Mary Brazil may be the daughter or sister of John Brazil.
