Obituaries - April 1999 Thursday, April 1, 1999 The Halifax Herald Limited CHASE, George Angus CHASE, George Angus - Died March 18, 1999, at his home in Whitby, Ont., following a long illness with cancer. He was born in Chester, Lunenburg Co., June 23, 1913, the eldest child of the late George Benjamin Chase and Jane Robertson MacMillan. He was a veteran of the Second World War, following which he lived and worked in Ontario. He enjoyed coming back to Nova Scotia for holidays. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Russell); his son, George Thomas and wife Sandra; granddaughter, Alison, all of Whitby. Lovingly remembered by his sisters, Elizabeth Estabrooks and Sheilah Leitch, Bedford; three nieces and three nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his brother, Ian; sisters, Mona Borgald and Kate in infancy. Visitation was held March 19 in Oshawa Funeral Services Home. Funeral was held March 20 in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Smart, followed by a Celebration of Life in the reception room. She was a member of First United Church, Truro. She was loved very much and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Monday, April 5, 1999 The Halifax Herald Limited SAWLER, Wesley Alton SAWLER, Wesley Alton - Wilmot, died April 3, 1999, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Western Shore, in 1905, to parents Lemuel and Laura (Mosher) Sawler, he moved to the Annapolis Valley at an early age and was employed by Dominion Atlantic Railway until retirement. As a hobby, he made numerous violins, guitars, etc. and was an exceptional fiddle player, playing in public on many occasions during his life and up until the time of his death. He volunteered for many engagements at various places including the Veteran's Wing at Soldiers Memorial Hospital and for children at schools. Because of his love for people and his keen interest for music and in world and local events, he had many friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a member of Kingston United Church. He will be sadly missed and always remembered as a loving husband to wife, Lillian Wallace; a loving, caring father to daughter, Marion (Mrs. George Kriisk), Wilmot; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. After a lifelong career as a medical doctor in Halifax and Dartmouth, he retired as head of the urology department at Dartmouth General Hospital. In his earlier years, he was an avid sportsman and enjoyed his hobby farm. He was a respected farmer and an avid fisherman. He loved nature, the land and all growing things. He was very close to all his children and their families.
