A former school teacher, she taught in several places in Lunenburg County including Mahone Bay where she taught for 23 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. James' Anglican Church; the ACW; the Canadian Cancer Society; the Mahone Bay Auxiliary of the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital; the Bayview Cemetery Association and the Retired Teachers Association. Sandra was employed with Avon Valley Greenhouses in Falmouth, in the supplies department for 27 years. She also enjoyed playing darts in the women's league and bowling on the Friday Night Bowling League. Sandra was a very loving mother, wife, grandmother and sister. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and community. An avid reader all her life, she enjoyed a lively discussion about politics, world leaders and foreign affairs. He was employed for over 35 years, as a carpenter with the Department of National Defence at CFB Shearwater and also formerly at CFB Stadacona, retiring in 1984. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth J. Madore; daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. Edmund Miller), Halifax; sons, Lloyd and his wife Margaret, Halifax; Gary and Greg, both of Halifax; grandchildren, Lisa, Steven and Jason Miller, Blaine, Brenda, Belinda and Wanda Rafuse, Cheryl, Scott and Leslie Rafuse, Jennifer Rafuse; several great-grandchildren; aunt, Sceva Moland, Timberlea; also several nieces and nephews. Shirley devoted her life to her family and serving her Lord through sharing her life story in speaking engagements and her published book of poetry. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, past president of Sackville Kinettes and was involved with Girl Guides. Shirley loved life and lived it to the fullest. She traveled extensively with her husband, John and one by one traveled with her grandchildren to Montreal by train. She was past chairman of the Christian Women's Club and touched many lives in that capacity. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Harold Brooklyn and Beatrice Margaret (Conrod) Elliott. He was the owner and operator of Harold A. Elliott Ltd. Painting Contractors for 35 years. He was the previous owner of Whispering Pines Stables in Scotch Village, Amberwood Stables in Millers Lake, and Woodhaven Stables in Belnan. He was an avid square dancer for many years, and belonged to the Scotia Dancers, Bedford; Hub Trackers, Truro and the Bluenose R.V. Squares, Square Dancing Clubs. His grandchildren were a very special part of his life. He will be sadly missed by all. Robert was involved in many community groups and organizations. Prior to his construction career, Robert was a member of the Canadian Army. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, New Germany; a charter president of the New Germany and Area Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award; member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons Association; South Shore Housing Authority; he presently was serving as an executive member of the Lunenburg Constituency of the Liberal Association; member of the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association; member of the Pinehurst Community Hall committee. Robert earned his interprovincial journeyman's certificate in carpentry, obtained through the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology. In 1997, she moved to Melville Heights Retirement Residence in Halifax. During her years in Halifax, she was active in church and community and was a regular attendant and active in, First Baptist Church. She was past regent and life member of Marion A. Morrow Chapter IODE, held two life memberships and worked on all chapter levels of IODE. Mary assisted in many charities and for several years was chairperson of Halifax Residential Campaign for The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. She was an active curler and charter member and past president of the Halifax Ladies Curling Club; was an active member of Ashburn Golf Club and past president of Ashburn Ladies Club; past president of Nova Scotia Branch and past president of Canadian Ladies Golf Association. After 1970, when a resident of Lunenburg, she became a member of Central United Church in Lunenburg. Born August 1, 1904, in East Chester, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Joseph and Annie (Meisner) Morash. Gordon went to sea as a young boy on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland as a cabin boy. He also worked at the Colonial Fertilizer in Windsor and operated the family farm on Wentworth Road. Gordon was a member of the Christ Church Anglican, Windsor. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late George B. and Joan E. (Kelly) Rhyno. He graduated from Lunenburg Regional Vocational School in 1986 and received his electrical papers in 1994. He worked in electrical maintanence at the Queens General Hospital in Liverpool. He was a great lover of music and played in local bands on bass guitar. He also enjoyed hockey. Born in East LaHave, he was a son of the late Robert and Anne Schmeisser. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Bridgewater and a life member of Poyntz No. 44 AF&AM Masonic Lodge, Hantsport. He retired from DND with over 25 years of service. He served as a merchant marine during the Second World War. He enjoyed 27 years of winter retirement in Florida with his loving wife of 58 years.
