Gore District

Established 1816 from Home District (Halton) and Niagara District (Haldimand, Lincoln), as well as most of Brant County, most of Waterloo County, part of Wellington County and Wentworth County.

"Contains some of the richest, best settled, and most highly cultivated townships in Canada West. The rapid growth of Hamilton, the district town, seems to have given an impetus to the rest of the district, and it has increased in wealth faster, during the last few years, than any other portion of the province."4

"A large portion of the inhabitants of the district are English, Scotch and Irish, and the remainder, Canadians, Americans and their descendants, and a few Germans."4

"The population of the Gore District in 1841, amounted to 31,507."4

Gore District was abolished in 1849.
