Ontario County was established in 1849 from York County but was not separate from York until 1853.
The county was dissolved in 1974 and "incorporated into Metropolitan Toronto, the Regional Municipality of Durham and the county of Simcoe on January 1, 1974."3
"Population 29,571 in 1852 and 135,895 in 1966."3
Ontario County was located in South-Western Ontario.
