Prince Edward District was established in 1831. It was the smallest district and comprised of Prince Edward County.
The first settlers were United Empire Loyalists who arrived in the 1780's.
"There is also a number of Pennsylvanian Dutch, and a few English, Irish, and Scotch. They are generally in comfortable circumstances, and many of them are wealthy."4
