There are two types of volunteers needed - one should fit you just right!

Short-Term Volunteers: Those willing to volunteer for a short period (hours, days, weeks) to transcribe, lend a hand by answering queries, write an article, or other similar needs.

Long-Term Volunteers: Those willing to volunteer for a long period (months, years) to host, co-ordinate, transcribe, or other similar needs.

Hosts
Long-Term

Individuals are needed to answer genealogical questions specific to Ontario’s counties & districts. Click here for more information or to volunteer

Indexers
Short-Term or Long-Term

Index a Book - Do you have or have access to a book relevant to Ontario genealogy (city directory, local history, family genealogy, etc)? If so, index it and send in the index to be posted on OntarioGenWeb. This can be done from anywhere by anyone. All you need is a book that has at least 51% Ontario content, then type in the surname & names of persons within the book along with info about the book (title, author, pub date, ISBN, where to purchase if applicable). Then submit it to OntarioGenWeb's Archive

Information Gatherers

Answer Questions or Queries - Answers are needed for our Q&A and Roadblocks pages. And answers are always needed for queries posted.

Cemeteries - Do you live near a cemetery? Have a cemetery transcript? Have an interest in cemeteries? The CanadaGenWeb Cemetery Project is seeking persons to provide lookups of local cemetery or transcripts, as well as persons willing to locate information on cemeteries (location, history, etc.). Transcribers

Census Transcriber - Transcribers, Proofreaders and Photocopiers are needed to help put census transcripts online. Click here for more information or to volunteer

Family Bible Transcriber - Do you have a family bible? Access to one? Find one at a garage sale or in a used book store? Transcribe it! Click here for more information or to volunteer

Project Managers
Long-Term

Persons willing to oversee new projects that OntarioGenWeb will launch. Project Managers would oversee the maintenance of the project at hand, including the organization of volunteers and submissions. An ideal Project Manager would be someone who has an interest in genealogy and enthusiasm to get the job done. People skills and HTML or online database knowledge would be an asset.

Project suggestions are welcome - do you have an idea for a project that would benefit Ontario researchers? As a Province-wide site we can only consider projects that encompass all of Ontario, or more than one area (localized projects should be suggested to the GenWeb host of that area) , and are of general or broad interest (ie, will be beneficial to most visitors). One of OntarioGenWeb's main functions is to provide information on how-to research your family in Ontario. Writers are needed to write articles or instructions on how-to research various genealogy topics in Ontario. There are still many topics that need attention:
