As per your instructions I went to Nelson, BC on the 28th of July to get these two woman & deport them – I saw the Chief of Police and he said he thought they had left for Revelstoke, but I was under the belief they were still in Nelson, with the assistance of the Police I kept watch, and about 4 am caugh sight of them in the window of the West womans house we went into the house but they had made their get-away – I told the West woman that unless she produced them, I would apply to you to prosecute her as a procures – she handed them over to the Chief – and he sent them to me as per attached telegram – also find attached bill of expences

This woman was objected by me, and put off the train at Waneta on the night of the 16th. The Station Agent tried to get her across the line into the US but she refused to go, and started to walk to Nelson. After walking about 3 miles she returned, and slept under the station the rest of the night, she was then without a guard & had any convayence come along would have gone on into Canada without hindrance, but as nothing came along to take her, she was shipped out on the Following morning – This woman being drunk & smoking under the station might have set fire to my office & House

As per telegram to Commissioner on the 23rd Sept

This man refused to answer all questions – was drunk – and refused to be put off the Train- Had to stop twice to get him off – He then came into my office and said he would walk to Nelson BC – He said he would catch me in Nelson and fix me so that I would never put off an other man – He is a bad man and will cause trouble – He started to walk to Nelson (60 miles) at 3:30 this PM – He could talk good English – and made several threats

Report of Admissions at Waneta BC 1908-1918 transcribed by "Jim Bundy" E-mail. As it happens, almost all of the people were arriving from various midwestern US states, and on their way to several places in BC and western Canada. A few were arriving directly from Europe. Almost all were travelling by rail.
