Don John DEACON


02 June 1913 – 01 August 1943



Don John DEACON (June 1913 – 01 August 1943) Professional Hockey Player. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, he began his hockey career as a winger for the Regina Pats in the junior league, playing but one play-off game in 1929. Deacon next season played with the rival Regina Olympics before rejoining the Pats in 1930. Backstopped by Ken Campbell (Shutout King) the Pats won the 1930 Memorial Cup in Deacon's absence. Deacon played 15 games for the Pats and scored 6 goals. His success in Saskatchewan's senior league (Prince Albert Mintos (1931-1935) earned him three stints with the Detroits Red Wings







In 1934, he signed as a free agent with Detroit Olympics playing until 1935. For the next fours seasons, he played as a defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League from (1936-40). In 1941, he joined the Canadian military and played for the (Calgary Currie Army team 1942-43). While on military leave, he died after falling from a balcony at a friend's party in Vancouver, Canada. Buried in the Regina (Veteran Section) Cemetery.
