PLUNKETT, SK ONE ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE
BADGER SCHOOL DISTRICT #913
I spoke to my grandmother who tells me that the
school was actually called the Badger school house,
near Wolverine. The Baker family (my grandmothers)
had a homestead in the area. It was open from
1913-1960. A fellow named Brock Duke was THE
teacher for 25 years.
There was some sort of commemoration about 5 years
ago when it got an historical designation.
outside Plunkett. There is a special site with a
statue erected by former students (eg My
grandmother, her sisters and friends who were
students there in the 1920s). It's special.

Webmaster note: to have a teacher such as
Brock Duke available to teach for 25 years
in the early days of One Room School House
Formation was an exception to the norm.
More often the not, the early teachers
were provisional teachers who taught with
a one year certificate which needed to
be re-newed annually, and the early Board
of Education usually encouraged further
education of these re-applicants.
