Bryan Adams (1959-) [Kingston, ON] After signing his first record contract at the tender age of 18, Adams embarked on a lengthy touring schedule which engulfed the young rocker for the early 80's but gained him the support of thousands of adoring fans. A classic before it was released, Cut's Like A Knife (1983) solidified his stardom, earning platinum status after only 8 months and giving Adams his first top 10 hit, "Straight From The Heart" Criticized as "a shallow formularization of Bruce Springsteen", the clean-cut Canadian with the trademark white T-shirt ignored his detractors, and much to the enjoyment of his growing fan base, continued to make music, releasing Reckless in 1984 on his 25th birthday. Grammy recognition soon followed - silencing his critics - and earning Bryan Adams the distinction of being Canada's foremost musical ambassador of the 80's. Reckless produced perhaps Adams' biggest hit, the teenage anthem "Summer of '69", along with perennial favorites "Heaven" and "Run to You". The world had taken to Bryan Adams and Canada honored him in turn. His list of awards speak for themselves: a dozen Juno Awards, a Diamond Sales Award for Reckless (which also became the best-selling Canadian album of all time), and the prized distinction of being named the Recording Artist of the Decade. After a four year recording hiatus from 1987's Into The Fire , Bryan Adams jumped back into superstar mode with 1991's Waking Up The Neighbors, which was backed by a three year world tour. Driven by the success of "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)", a product of his first foray into film music, Adams sold out venues across the globe and looked destined to continued super-stardom throughout the 90's. Despite criticism that his music has weakened with commercial success and that he has become nothing more than an over-paid balladeer, Bryan Adams continues to ignore the naysayers and follow his calling. A recent Best Of collection and plans for another world tour send a clear message from Adams that like it or not, he is (in spirit) 18 till he dies, and has no plans on slowing down just yet. Bryan Adams sort ensuite The Best of Me, une compilation regroupant ses meilleurs titres et quelques inédits. (courtesy of Amanda Banayot)

Roy Dupuis (1963-) [Abitibi région, QC] A star, whose experience stretches from theater to television and to cinema, and across three languages, Dupuis seems ready for a long and productive career. Born April 21, 1963, Dupuis was raised in the Abitibi region of Quebec. When he was older he moved to Montreal, where he learned to speak English. He attended university, where he majored in science. However, after seeing the film, Moliere, he was overtaken by the acting bug - switching from physics to theater. He never looked back. When a friend could not make an audition for the prestigious National Theater School of Canada, Roy took his place. Out of thousands of applicants, he was selected. While there Roy received a superb education, which shows through in all his work. He worked in theater for a while, and then, in 1986, Roy made his cinematic debut in several French Canadian productions. How to Make Love to a Negro Without Getting Tired and Jesus de Montreal were huge international hits, and while Dupuis' roles in them were small, he received some much needed exposure. His fame at home was immense, and it was only a matter of time until people south of the Canadian border would catch on. He made his American debut in the television movie, Million Dollar Babies. A joint production between CBS and the CBC, the movie told the story of the Dionne Quintuplets. The movie was a ratings success and paved the first bricks on the road to Roy Dupuis' success. Next came Screamers, a science fiction movie by Christian Duguay. The film was not largely successful, but Dupuis' character was widely regarded as one of the few positive aspects of the film. Dupuis returned to his roots for a few years, starring in many critically acclaimed French Canadian films. Then, in 1997, he landed a recurring role on the acclaimed television series, La Femme Nikita as the ambiguous Michael - both friend and foe for the show's lead actress, Peta Wilson. The show has lead to an awesome fan following for Dupuis, who seems more poised now than ever for a bright future.
(courtesy of Debra Bayham)
