National Society Daughters of the American Colonists The Old Fort Des Moines Chapter was organized November 10, 1944 with Mrs. Clyde Brenton, National President installing officers. The chapter was named for the area's predominant geographical site, Old Fort Des Moines which is often referred to as "the West Point of the Midwest" because of its majestic red brick buildings and lush tree-lined landscape, Fort Des Moines shaped American history from its inception. Most members are from the local area; however, some members are from other areas, as well. Local residency is not a requirement for membership in any chapter.
