National Society Daughters of the American Colonists
Old Fort Des Moines Chapter

The Old Fort Des Moines Chapter was organized November 10, 1944 with Mrs. Clyde Brenton, National President installing officers. The chapter was named for the area's predominant geographical site, Old Fort Des Moines which is often referred to as "the West Point of the Midwest" because of its majestic red brick buildings and lush tree-lined landscape, Fort Des Moines shaped American history from its inception.

Many members are from the local area; however, we have transfers from out of state and members who no longer reside in Iowa, but maintain their membership in the Old Fort Des Moines Chapter. Local residency is not a requirement for membership in any Daughters of American Colonists chapter.

The Old Fort Des Moines Chapter meets four times a year in the meeting room at the Urbandale Public Library, 3520 86th Street, Urbandale, Iowa. Our year begins with meetings on the 4th Friday in February and May. In August we meet on the second Friday and many members add a visit to the nearby Iowa State Fair.  In December, the chapter meets on the first Friday for our Christmas event. The Daughters of American Colonists gather for lunch , catered by the Cafe, at 11:30 followed by our meeting and program.  If you would like to attend one of our meetings, please contact us.

We welcome any woman for membership who is a citizen of the United States of America, of good moral character, who has attained her eighteenth year. Information on membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists can be found here.
