Sandra Hargreaves Luebking, FUGA will present an all-day seminar at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa on 23 April 2005.

“Knowledgeable, humorous, and organized” is how audiences at 1,000-plus national lectures describe Sandra Hargreaves Luebking. Her lecturing skills have been honed by graduate studies in communication and a natural teaching ability. A true professional with a relaxed, easy stage presence, she has appeared on television and radio stations and on audio and video tape. She will convey the most complex strategies and concepts in a clear, concise, and interesting manner. She a holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has completed graduate course work in History and Communications at University of Illinois at Springfield.

Since 1979, Mrs. Luebking has taught at Samford University's highly respected Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR), Birmingham, Alabama, and has twice accompanied their British Research tour. In 1990, she became co-ordinator of IGHR’s Techniques & Technology Course (beginners). Since 1994, Mrs. Luebking has been intermediate studies coordinator for the Genealogical Institute of Mid-America, a week-long program held each July at University of Illinois at Springfield. This institute is sponsored by the Illinois State Genealogical Society.

Helping thousands of people to “find their midwest roots,” Mrs. Luebking has conducted research projects for the Smithsonian Institute, numerous publishers and attorneys, and an international clientele from Australia, England, Finland, Germany and Sweden. She is a past trustee for the Association of Professional Genealogists and a volunteer research assistant at the National Archives-Great Lakes Region.

Mrs. Luebking is editor of FORUM, the international magazine for genealogists and historians published by the Federation of Genealogical Societies. She co-edited the 1997 Revised Edition of The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy, (Ancestry, 1997) and is now working on the 2004 revision. This work is described as “an indispensable guide for researchers.” She also co-edited the award-winning The Archives: A Guide to the National Archives Field Branches, (Ancestry, 1988) (both titles with Loretto D. Szucs). The 2001 publication, Professional Genealogy: A Manual for Researchers, Writers, Editors, Lecturers, and Librarians (Elizabeth Shown Mills, editor), includes two chapters written by her.

A Fellow of the Utah Genealogical Association (1996), Mrs. Luebking was, in 1995, named Outstanding IGHR Alumni by Samford University. Other honors are was being chosen the Willard Heiss Memorial Lecturer at the 79th Annual Indiana History Conference (Indiana Historical Society) in 1999; and receipt of the FGS President’s Citation in 2001.
