The
Sunrise Memorial Cemetery is located at 2201 Sacramento Street in Vallejo,
California. The earliest Articles of Incorporation for the cemeteries
that original comprised the cemetery of today were dated 1872, however,
judging from the epitaphs on the stones, the cemetery was in use as early
as 1860. The Articles of Incorporation included the Masonic and Odd Fellows
Cemetery Association, the Union Cemetery Association, and the Hillside
Cemetery Association. Represented in the Union Cemetery Association were
the International Order of Good Templars, Redmen, Grand Army of the Republic,
and the Pioneer Cemetery. Represented in the Hillside Cemetery Association
were the Cornell Baptist, First Presbyterian, and Methodist-Episcopal
Churches of Vallejo. Later sections of the cemetery included the Veteran's
Section, and the Good Shepherd Sections.
The following index by the Solano County Genealogical Society, Inc. to
the burials in the Sunrise Memorial Cemetery is meant to aid genealogists
and historians. SCGS member Richard Boyer personally surveyed the cemetery
and recorded the information from each and every stone. Other members
of SCGS put his work into a computerized index. Although accuracy was
of prime importance, it must be pointed out that stones, especially the
older ones, can sometimes be difficult to transcribe and the genealogical
society cannot guarantee that mistakes will not be found.
