The San
Fernando Valley Genealogical Society was organized January 18,
1981. Alexander White, a Dean at UCLA gave beginning and advanced
classes that summer. The first publishing project, Guide to Revolutionary
War Records in L.A. Area Libraries (1985), was started at Alexander
White's suggestion. He had collected bibliographies of Revolutionary
War resources for years and was interested in making it available
to researchers. Alexander White and Muriel Fisher, then president
of the society, arranged the first organizational meeting on
Saturday March 21, 1982. There were many volunteers helping with
the Revolutionary War Project. Five major libraries were checked.
Ed Coles was the project coordinator and he double checked all
the work. The second
publication was Genealogical
Holdings in the Mark Harrington Library (1985).These were books belonging
the the San Fernando Valley Historical Society and located at
the Andres Pico Adobe, 10940 Sepulveda Boulevard, Mission Hills
CA. Sterling Jensen inventoried the library for this publication. The third
publication was the 7
- Generation Charts
published in 1987. Project coordinator was Eva Meline. Members
contributed their 7 - generation charts. The fourth publication, San Fernando Valley Vital Statistics, Newspaper Extracts, Volume I, 1911-1925 was published in 1987. Sterling Jensen was the Extraction Project Manager. The names of the papers were Lankershim Laconic and Lankershim Press. The fifth publication was San Fernando Valley Vital Statistics, Newspaper Extracts, Volume II, 1926-1934 published in 1992. Sterling Jensen was Extraction Project Manager. San Fernando Valley Vital Statistics, Newspaper Abstracts Volumes III and IV are completed. Muriel
Fisher was Project Extraction Manager. Loren Gardiner entered
most of the information on the computer for volume III, and Dot
Buckstaff has entered Volume IV. There were many volunteers on
all of these publishing projects.
