The news is out: The National Archives at Laguna Niguel is now open on the first Tuesday of each month until 8:30 P.M. In April, their second month to be open these extended hours, they report that they were swamped. In fact, attendance during the regular hours has taken a leap forward also. They are blaming it on us, the SOCCGS. The FHC reports the same. Seems our presence at the Mission Viejo City Public Library has opened the eyes of many patrons that we are truly living in a very unique area with wonderful resources to do genealogical research.
Which brings to mind another topic. We are covering the hours open at
the City Library, but it would be so much better if there were two volunteers on duty each shift. Anyone out there willing to volunteer? Please contact Betty McKenzie if you can help.
The Ohio Historical Society holds statewide death certificates, from 20 December 1908 to 31 December 1944. An index to records 1913-1927 and 1933-1937 is now available online. More years will be added later. Death Index: http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/search.cfm
You could say that one year of human history was skipped. After the year 1 B.C., the calendar measurements immediatedly went to A.D. 1. Between 1 B.C. and A.D. there was no year numbered "0" although in the centuries since there have been zero years, such as 100, 1200 and 1900.
That is why the 21st century will technically start in 2001 not 2000. Because there was no zero year, the first century consisted of the years 1 through 100. The twentieth century consists of the years 1901 through 2000. However, people will most likely celebrate the new century January 1, 2000, even though 2000 really belongs to the 100 years of the previous century.
