About CenTrans
CenTrans was written by Bill Husler for use in the USGenWeb Archives Census
Transcription Project. It is a filemaker program and is available for both
Macintosh and Windows.
CenTrans streamlines the transcription process while providing a
standardised file format for archiving and distribution over the internet.
It maintains two files for each Census year. One file contains each of the
page headers and the other contains all the individual lines. In this way,
it is possible to review and make changes to an entire page in context.
CenTrans makes it easy to combine files and produce extracts. You can
import from CART or from Templates. You can export to DBF or TEXT.

|
The Beta
CenTrans is still a new program and we are still finding some errors (be
careful to backup your data often).
All Census years (except 1890) are now supported, but please check the column
headings for your year and report any unusual behaviour.

For any questions you have, we suggest that you join the
CenTrans Support Mailing List.
USGW-ACP-CENTRANS
The USGW-ACP-CENTRANS is a mailing list for those
volunteers who are using the CenTrans program. Like the census list, it is available
in single email form: USGW-ACP-CENTRANS and a digest version: USGW-ACP-CENTRANS-D.
You can subscribe yourself to this list by writing to:
USGW-ACP-CENTRANS-request@rootsweb.com
and typing SUBSCRIBE in the body.
