The family of James and Alice Cate is sometimes written James and Alice Skate. Alice, as "Goody Skate", got into a fight with "Goody" (Sarah) Abbott and the two were hauled before the court at Portsmouth. Alice had accused Sarah of causing her to miscarry by her verbal abuse, and bit Sarah's thumb during the altercation, for which she was sentenced to 10 stripes with a whip, redeemed by a fine of 40 s paid by her husband. Sarah got an admonition, and both paid fees for the court and witnesses.

She is identified as the widow of the late Johannes Vuylliomyn of Estavayer in a transaction between Jean and Michel Fivaz, brothers, sons of the late Claude Fivaz, and universal heirs of the late Johannes Vuylliomyn, recorded by Pierre Chuard, notary at Payerne, 18 jul 1522 (ACV DP 16/2 fol. 10). At that time, Jean and Michel were of age and acting in their own names. The same notary recorded a transaction involving Johannes Vuylliermyn of Corcelles, evidently still alive, just a few months later, thus signalling the existence of two families that might easily be confused.
