He is cited 23 oct 1653 (Benoit Giraudet, notary at Moudon). Maurice Dutoit of Chesalles deeds any rights he may have to the estate of Pierre son of Antoine Maquelin of La Faye, supposed to be 1/4 of the estate, to Jaques son of Jaques Fauchieres of Moudon. Since Maurice was Pierre's uncle, it would appear that Pierre's mother Françoise Dutoit had also died, and that her four remaining siblings or their surviving heirs were her heirs-at-law. His testament was recorded by Benoit Giraudet, 01 feb 1641.

After some years of research, we are finally confident in stating that this is the Henri Marcel who assisted Louis Reymond, leader of the "Bourla-Papey" brigades of 1802. More research is needed, but Reymond's lieutenant is cited in the Lexikon and in the electronic edition of the Dictionnaire Historique de la Suisse as Henri Marcel, born 1772. Other accounts call him Henri Marcel "of Lausanne". There is simply no other Henri Marcel, and no other Marcel family in Lausanne at that era. There is a citation to this effect, also, in the an article by René Secrétan, "A propos des Bourla-Papey", Revue Historique Vaudoise 58:17-32 (1950) (found on Google Books, footnote on page 20 cites Johannes Strickler, vol. VIII, page 1331, probably a reference to his Actensammlung aus de Zeit der Helvetische Republik, in 10 volumes, published 1886-1905), not yet examined.
As a result, we must view the departure of Jean Pierre Samuel Marcel from the Pays de Vaud in 1802 in a new perspective. An account of the family from the Archives of Lausanne (1950's) indicated Henri had three children out of wedlock. Recent communication with the Archives of Lausanne (2005) names two sons born out of wedlock, and indicates that Henri left Switzerland for America in 1802, leaving his children without support (and thus to be supported at public expense).
The mention of Henri Marcel leaving Switzerland intersects nicely with the rest of the history of the Bourla-Papey. Henri Marcel, Louis Reymond, and several others who participated in these exploits were sentenced to death in absentia by the Petit Conseil of the République Helvétique about 30 jun 1802, the conspirators by then having retreated to Thonon in Savoie, out of reach of the Swiss authorities. By 19 aug 1802, the councillor Polier having been relaced by the more sympathetic Henri Monod, a decree of amnesty was issued, commuting the death sentences to banishment. Finally, the Sénat of the République Helvétique passed a decree of complete amnesty 15 oct 1802, hoping for the political support of the more democratic segment of the population. The news that Henri may have come to America is thus extremely interesting and points out the need for additional research in records on both sides of the Atlantic. If he was actually in America in 1805, we would suppose he was somewhere in the vicinity where our Jean Pierre Samuel Marcel settled, perhaps near Georgetown, DC.
The authority for the statement that he died before 1820 is the marriage record of his son in Switzerland. In all probability, there should be some other notice of his passing in the Swiss records. A possible clue is a mention in the Marcel dossier at the Archives de la Ville de Lausanne of a bankruptcy ("faillite") of Henry Marcel, 19 jul 1805, perhaps in connection with a house at Place St. François 16 which had been owned by his father, and after the death of his mother in 1801, in the hands of Henri and his siblings.
Dead by the time his son Henri Siméon Marcel was married in 1820.

Although the family account quoted by the archivist of Lausanne in 1952 says he spent some time in England, the 1881 census of St. George Hanover Square, London, shows William Marcel, age 52?, doctor of medicine, Swiss but a British subject, with his wife Constance L. age 46, living at 39 Lower Grosvenor Street. Another reference indicates Dr. Charles Marcel devoted special attention to collecting documents relating to Major Davel. His death in Paris was reported in the Journal de Genève, naming a long list of relatives whose relationships have not yet been worked out. Among this is the family of Maurice David-Marcel, whose daughter Amélie was the first wife of the minister Segundo Sabio del Valle.
