In the records of Pierre Chuard, notary at Payerne, the first document we have found in which Benoit appears as the son of the late Louis is dated 01 oct 1517.

Apparently, one of the wives of Benoit Nible was previously the wife of Jacob Regnauld. After considering the dates of all the people involved, we have come to the conclusion that she must have been the second wife of Benoit Nible, the name of the first wife still unknown. It is also unknown which children are from which marriage, but likely the first two, Anne and Louise, must be from the first wife, based on the apparent death date of Benoitte du Moulin's first husband Jacob Regnauld.
On the other hand, some of the information that has come down to us about Jacob Regnauld may be speculative. If, for example, we discover that Anne or Louise Nible inherited from either du Moulin or Chevrod, we would have to conclude that Benoitte du Moulin was indeed their mother, and that, therefore, the statement that Jacob Regnauld had owned a half interest in the fief of Bellevaux must be false, and thereby setting Jacob's date of death considerably earlier, before about 1550.

The same connections are implied in a transaction recorded 29 sep 1582 by Jean Marcuard, notary at Payerne (ACV DP 62/2), in which Claude Tholley, mestral de Middes, rents property held by (1) Egrège Benoit Nible comme usufruictayre des biens de fen Noble Benoicte du Moullin sa femme for 1/3; (2) the same also in the name of Noble Marguerite sa belle soeur (thus, Marguerite du Moulin) for 1/3; and (3) the same also in the name of Noble Magdelayne fille de feu Noble François Gachet for the remaining 1/3.
Further details are given in other registers of Benoit Nible: 27 nov 1550, in which Collette is the "fille impubere" of Benoit du Moulin by his second wife Ysabel Chevrod (register 1, fol. 56, relating to similar material beginning at fol. 45), and 04 may 1558, by which time Collette had become the wife of François Gachet (register 2, fol. 64)

She is cited as the wife of David Gachet several times between 1669 and 1673. The same Marie du Moulin is identified as the wife of Monsieur Fivat in 1659, at a time when the first wife of David Gachet was still living. Marie is also the Madame l'Advoyer Gachet who was a sponsor at Corcelles 29 aug 1675 for the baptism of Marianne, daughter of Jonas Henryjan and Magdelaine Rappin.
The notary David Tavel (ACV DP 101) recorded a marriage contract (DP 101/1 fol. 25v) on 01 jan 1683 between Noble Jaques François Fivat bourgeois de Payerne, with authorization from his mother Marie du Moullin in the form of a letter in the hands of Abraham du Mont, minister at Morat, to Jaqueline daughter of the late Noble Samuel Mestral, with authorization from her mother Marie de Hennezel, with her sons-in-law Pierre d'Estienne, minister at Costert, and Noble David de Treytorrens, councillor at Payerne. The same Jaques François Fivat had died by 10 dec 1685, when his sister Urbaine Fivat and her husband Noble Gamaliel Clavel councillor at Cully sold various properties.
In the registers of the notary David Dufour of Grandcour (ACV DP 112), Marie du Moulin appears several times, and under several spellings, the last in 1715. The reigster includes an inserted letter dated 12 jan 1715 at Grandson, to Monsieur Dufour, Lieutenant de GrandCour, regarding a proposed letter of rente. Marie signes herself "Vostre tres humble & obeisante servante & cousine, Marie De Mollin." In Dufour's registers, she is identified both as the widow of the late Noble David Gachet, Advoyer of Payerne, and as the wife of Noble Jean François Bourgeois, conseiller and bourgeois of Grandson.

She appears as the wife of André Salté beginning in 1708, and Jean Mourgue and Claude Richard are present at the baptism of her second child. She appears to be the same Eve Elizabeth Mourgue who appears with husband Jean Lodera/Laudera/ etc. 1729-38; Anne Mourgue appears as witness for one of these baptisms. The mother's name varies too: Elizabeth, Eve Elizabeth, and Isabeau. Appearance of 2 daughters at Aubonne in the 1730's suggests they moved there about 1732-33.
Proof that she was the daughter of Jean Mourgue has finally surfaced in a document recorded by Daniel Delormes, notary at Lausanne, 24 jun 1726, which notes that Jean Mourgues has died, and his inheritance is divided between Jean Louis Mourgues, locksmith, Bernard Mourgues, joiner, with his wife Marie Margueron, and their sister Elizabeth Mourgues, wife of André Saltet, joiner. The document mentions judicial decisions of 16 jun 1723 (rendered by Eg. Philippe Mennet) and recorded by Isaac André Vulliamoz 26 (?) jun 1723.

We have no information about Bernard or his parents between about 1680 and 1704, when Bernard was cited for breach of promise of marriage to Marie Margueron. It is possible the family spent some of that period in another parish.
Shortly before his death (18 aug 1727), there is a death record for Marguerite widow of Mr. Bernard Mourgues, age about 60 (14 oct 1726, thus born about 1666). Not only is the clearly not Marie Margueron, who was very definitely alive as late as 1736, but the age would be wrong as well for a wife of our Bernard, since she would be much too old. Although in these records the ages are often very rough approximations, and she might not have been as old as she looked, the most likely explanation is that there was another Bernard Mourgue in the area, perhaps a cousin of the present Bernard.

If the church records of St. Hippolyte du Fort are complete, he was the only Mourgue in town who had a son Jean between 1644 and 1660. Death records at St. Hippolyte show another Estienne Mourgue b. 1597 who died 09 aug 1675. However, there are many problems with the records of St. Hippolyte, among them a clear tendency to exaggerate the age when elderly people died.
Our Estienne Mourgue seems to be the only one born about the right time, but there are gaps in the records, and we have to admit that a large number of individuals with this surname who appear in death and marriage records cannot be traced back to a baptismal entry. It is possible that they were baptised in neighboring towns, such as Mandiargues. Moreover, the records at St. Hippolyte contain a number of obvious errors and are silent about the relationships between sponsors at baptisms. Worse, it appears marriage records are extremely fragmentary. It will be necessary to comb the notarial records that have survived (starting 1633 at St. Hippolyte, though possibly more information can be had in neighboring towns -- or perhaps even over the border in the next department).
It is possible that this Estienne Mourgue later married Anne Icard (about 1662?) and was the father of at least 9 more children recorded between 1663 and 1681. That would make Anne Icard's birthdate not earlier than 1636, certainly possible. On the other hand, we have found no record of the death of Magdelaine Berthezene after the birth of her last recorded child in 1657.
Nevertheless, the only Estienne whose baptism is recorded at St. Hippolyte in the right generation to be the husband of Magdelaine Berthezene is the son of Moyse Mourgue and Isabeau Bonnet, baptised 25 apr 1625 and born 25 feb 1625. A brother Moyse was baptised in 1623, and could be the same Moyse who appears at some of the baptisms and burials of the children of Estienne and Anne Icard, signing documents because Estienne could not write his name. Moyse himself appears to be the son of Moyse Mourgue and Marie Laurent baptised in 1595. Isabeau apparently died 06 oct 1671 (appearing as Elizabeth Bonnette, widow of Moyse Mourgue, age about 75). That would put her birth about 1596, though I have not been able to locate it in the registers at St. Hippolyte, in which many entries for this period are almost illegible.
Notarial records at St. Hippolyte (Pierre Laurent, notary) also mention Fulcrand and Estienne Mourgue, brothers, in 1641, and a similar one in 1645.. The first was a "donnation à cause de mort", but it is not clear whose, and it seems most likely the Estienne in question is the elder one, not ours, though it is not uncommon for a minor to appear as a party to a transaction in the company of an elder brother.
