His name is usually spelled Regnier or similar in the records of the district of Lavaux. We find this spelling sometimes also in Lausanne in the 16th Century, interchangeable with René or Renez. In Lausanne, also, we find a René Portaz baptised in 1579, son of Saturnin Porte or Porta or Portaz. The records of the notaries help assure us that the Regnier of Cully is the son of Clément, not the son of Saturnin. Futher, the act of bourgeoisie in Lausanne for Henri Portaz in 1688 reveals that Henri Portaz believed himself to be, or at least claimed to be a descendant of Saturin (admitted to citizenship at Lausanne in 1574), but as he had presented no proof and apparently threatened legal action if his claim to citizenship were denied, the city council simply avoided the issue by conferring a new grant of citizenship on him and his descendants.
The family notes included in de Faria's account of the descendants of Dom Antonio I, King of Portugal (Archives Héraldiques Suisses 21:39-67, 1907) did not follow the descendants of Saturnin, but they do give a great deal of information about the descendants of the present Regnier.

He appears several times in the surviving early church records of Lausanne. His surname is written at first Porte, then Porta. In the next generation, it is Portaz. His marriage contract, recorded by George Ansel (ACV DG 4/3), specifies that he has brothers Claude and Pierre of Cully, and that his brother Hugoz, who married Jeanne Groz alias Merlin, sister of Rose, has died.
