     Alexander Cheyne 3rd of Raniestoun was the son of Thomas Cheyne 2nd of Raniestoun and Catherine Fraser.

Alexander Cheine was made a burgess of Aberdeen, 22 September 1607. (Council Register XLIII.).1

Alexander Cheyne in Aberdeen (18473) and Alexander Cheyne 3rd of Ranietoun (2440) probably were the same person.

Alexander Cheyne of Petfichie (2440) and Walter Cheyn in Tilliebin (2434) were mentioned in an action in Littlejohn, Records of the Sheriff Court of Aberdeenshire. The entry for the said action reads as follows: "June 27 (1642). Loosings of Arrestments. Alexr. Smithe of Blairdaff v. Alexr. Cheyne of Petfichie and his tenants. Cautioner Walter Cheyn in Tilliebin. Peats in the Moss of Rannalloche".3

Alexander Cheyne 3rd of Raniestoun died about 1649.2
