Alexander Cheyne

     Alexander Cheyne was the son of Unknown Cheyne.

Alexander Cheyne (756) was another seemingly important early Cheyne. He married Jean Urquhart (760) before 1685. She was of the family of the Urquharts of Cromarty. It is very likely that they had children before 1685. The earliest record of him was on the fourth page of the Fyvie Parish Register of Baptisms which began in 1685. Witnesses of the baptisms of their children included: James Urquhart of Knockleith (4529), Patrick Urquhart (4530), doctor in Aberdeen, John Gordon of Gight (4436), John Gordon of Erdo (4408) and Alexander Wilson ((4800) in 1696, he was imprimis tenant to Laird of Gight). These Urquharts were related to the Gordons of Gight by marriage. Alexander Cheyne and Jean Urquhart were tenants on Gight property.
Another witness was Mr. William Cheyne (752), schoolmaster of Auchredy, Mill of Cairnbanno. What was his connection?
Alexander Cheyne and Jean Urquhart resided in Fyvie Parish from before 1685 to 1694, Methlick Parish 1694 to 1698, Auchredy 1701 to 1705, and Monquhitter Parish after 1705.

Alexander Cheyne married Jean Urquhart.

About 1680. No birth record was found for Elizabeth Cheyne (3173), as she would have been born before the OPR was kept in Fyvie. Her children's baptisms were witnessed by her probable parents, Alexander Cheyne (756), and Jean Urquhart (760). Two of Elizabeth's children were named Alexander and Jean.

About 1683. Margaret Cheyne (4705) was born before the OPR's were kept in Fyvie Parish. She was identified as the daughter of Alexander Cheyne (756), in the original version of the Monquhitter OPR on 19 January 1706, where she and her father witnessed the baptism of Alexander Gerrard. She witnessed baptisms three times in Monuhitter and once in New Deer Parishes; all four times her address was the same as her parents.¹

The baptismal record of Barbara Cheyne documented Alexander Cheyne as the father, 23 May 1685, at Woodhead of Fetterletter, in Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The date was either 3rd or 23rd of May.
