1682 - SUSSEX, DE - NORTH WEST FORK 100

This land was originally part of Maryland, all land on Maryland patents no "grants". 1st families to settle area are the Nutters 1682 "Tausey Wandoke" (in 1776 the Polks were listed as owning this tract), Layfields "Salem" and Adams "Backclass" 1696.

In 1740 William Layton took up Maryland warrants and acquired "Sapling Ridge". The Adam's acquired "Clifton's Delight" in the same manner.

1707 - SOMERSET CO., MD

GEORGE & MICHAEL: "Hart's Delight" GEORGE (112 acres) and later sold it to Robert Warren. MICHAEL kept his land and it was passed on to his son JOHN. GEORGE & MICHAEL moved to the area in Somerset Co., MD near the present city of Salisbury. GEORGE purchased "Ascue's Choice" lying on the north side of the main branch of Wicomico River called Cassland Creek in 1707 and sold it in 1725, with his wife listed as Mary in the deed. John Crouch owned land very close to Ascue's Choice. During this period GEORGE & MICHAEL were closely allied with the Whites and Collins families. In 1708 MICHAEL is listed as the testator of the will of John Collins whose sister Sarah was Michael's wife. Sara & John Collins were the children of Samuel Collins of Somerset Co.

Whereas Francis Wright became seized of a tract called Sapling Ridge formerly in Dorchester Co., MD, but now in Sussex Co. 40 acres of the tract was sold by Francis Wright to Levin Clifton, beginning at the first bounder of the AFSD.
