1998 Queries For Baca County bar

Elaine Goodner 5/7/1998 WALLING -- I am looking for information on the ancestors of Norma Goldie WALLING, born in Stonington, Baca Co, CO, 5 June 1926. She married Daniel W. Johnson.

Donna Hunter 5/7/1998 WILLIAMS -- Would like to correspond with others who had ancestors who homesteaded in Baca Co, Colorado in the early 1900s. My grandparents were Clyde Williams and Ada (Gold) Williams.

Anita Allee 8/7/1998 BUTLER -- My great grandfather, JOHN HENRY BUTLER, homesteaded in Baca County from 1889-1899. He came that summer/fall and built a two-story home with his 2 sons. Later some of the women and children came. Do you have him listed in the Veterans' Census? He was a Confederate from MO. We did find the 1/2 section of land they settled on last October and greatly enjoyed walking over it. We later found pictures of  the house, buildings and stone fences. It was eery to walk over the land where they walked 100 years ago and have the sun go down and feel how they might have felt living there. Later we read some letters describing their loneliness, conditions and work. My grandmother told many tales of their "homesteading" days. She was 8 yrs. Old at the time they went and 18 when they went back home. She drove a covered wagon back to MO with some of their possesions when they returned after realizing they were not to be dryland farmers. Thanks, Anita Allee.

Associated families who also lived there were BLAND, WILSON, SCHAFFER, BARTH, and others. My grandmother, Ollie ROBBINS, was a midwife and delivered many babies and cared for the sick in the Utleyville area. I would appreciate any info you can share on these families. Thanks, Rae

There is a baby Butler and Mrs. Butler buried in the Minneapolis Cem. and we were trying to ascertain if they could have been his family. He was born in MO and his parents were John Henry Butler and Lucinda Rice Butler. The father and his second wife were Homesteading in Baca Co during the above years. Thanks.
