APPLICATION
FAMILY RECOGNITION PROGRAM
 
Thank you for you interest in the Colorado Family recognition Program. The purpose of this program is to learn of those families which contributed to the settlement and growth of early Colorado, and to recognize and pay tribute to them.

Upon approval of your application you will be issued a certificate, attractively designed and suitable for framing, signed by the Governor of Colorado and the President of the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies.


Eligibility – Applicant need not currently reside in Colorado, but must be a direct descendant of an ancestor who qualifies in one of the three following categories:
  • First Family – Ancestor must have been born in or settled in the land area of what is now Colorado before 28 February 1861.
  • Territorial Family – Ancestor must have been born in or settled in a territory that is now Colorado between 28 February 1861 and 01 August 1876.
  • Centennial Family – Ancestor must have been born in or settled in Colorado at least 100 years prior to the date of this application.
Proof of Elgibility – Applicant must submit proof of relationship between generations from applicant back to the earliest Colorado ancestor. Types of acceptable proofs are: records of birth, death, marriage, adoption, Bible and census; school and church records which have been certified by the school or church official, newspaper clippings showing the name of newspapers, locality and date; county histories, and other records showing proof. Land deeds are acceptable if they state individual is a resident of Colorado. Census record must be a copy of the microfilm stating the Film No., Roll No. and Page No. Be sure to identify all book titles, publishers,publication dates, volume and page numbers, microfilm reel number and name of library or institution where proof is on file.

Submit photocopies of documents only - - no originals, please.

The Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies will make all final decisions as to the acceptance or rejection of all applications.

Fee - $10.00 non-refundable fee for each certificate. Make check payable to CCGS, Inc.
