Early
1860's - Richard S. Little, a native of Grafton,
New Hampshire, establishes squatter's rights on 160 acres located
just east of the South Platte River.
1862
- Little brings his wife of eight
years, Angeline, out to Colorado to be with him.
1867
- Little and a group of his neighbors join together and found a flour mill.
1869
- Littleton Post Offices established. Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute tribes left
the area
1871
- Denver &
Rio Grande train makes first appearance in Littleton
1872
- Richard Little lays out an eighteen
block town site on a plat of his land and filed the
appropriate papers with the land office.
1890
- Littleton residents vote to incorporate
1903
- Electricity comes to Littleton
1904
- Littleton becomes County Seat
1906
- Electric street car usage begins in city
1907
- New county courthouse building opens
1917
- Completion of a new sewer system and a
public library.
1950
- Water for non-food uses was often hauled in buckets from local
irrigation ditches, causing the local government to debate the
question of limiting population.
1960
- Population over 13,000.
Current
population: 43,000.
