Ward 1--Ward 2--Ward 3

Judy Smith and Kathy Love, members of the Longmont Genealogical Society extracted the Longmont Voter Registration Records for use on the LGS web site. We appreciate the hard work they've done and the time they've spent to provide these records for us.

The original records consist of three large books with handwritten entries, one ward per book. There are entries for 1898 until 1919. The name, address, marital status, physical description, age and occupation were recorded for each person as they registered. Physical description included eye and hair color and complexion. Women were allowed to vote in local elections in Colorado as of 1886 so many women registered.

The boundaries of the three wards were determined by an ordinance passed in 1898. First Ward included the portion of the Town of Longmont lying north of the center of Fourth Avenue and east of the center of Main Street, including the Wilcox Addition. Second Ward included the portion of the Town of Longmont lying north of the center of Fourth Avenue and west of the center of Main Street including the Butler's Addition. Third Ward included the portion of town lying south of the center of Fourth Avenue, including Coffman's Addition.

In 1909 these boundaries were readjusted according to an ordinance passed by the City Council of the City of Longmont. "All that portion of the City of Longmont lying north of the center of Fourth Avenue and east of the center of Main Street, including additions to said city within the corporate limits, shall comprise Ward One or the First Ward of said city… All that portion of the City of Longmont lying west of the Center of Main Street, and north of a line beginning at the center of Fourth Avenue and Main Street, thence west on the center line of Fourth avenue to Bowen Street, thence north on the center line of Bowen Street to Carlton Avenue, thence west on the center line of Carlton Avenue to Grant Street, thence south on the center line of Grant Street to Third Avenue thence west of the center line of Third Avenue to city limits, including additions to said city in said territory within the corporate limits, shall comprise Ward Two or the Second Ward…All the portion of the city of Longmont lying south of a line beginning at the center of Martin Street and Fourth Avenue, thence west on the center line of Fourth Avenue to Bowen Street, thence north on the center line of Bowen Street to Carlton Avenue, thence west on the center line of Carlton Avenue to Grant street, thence south on the center line of Grant Street to Third avenue, thence west on the center line of Third Avenue to city limits, including additions to said city in said territory, within the corporate limits, shall comprise Ward Three or the Third Ward, of said city."
