Haxtun-Fleming Herald, Haxtun, Colorado, May 3, 2000 Alice M. (Bellamy) Monteith, 90, died April 25, 2000, at Heritage Living Center, Haxtun. She was born on January 29, 1910, in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Charles B. and Blanche B. (McClurg) Bellamy. Alice moved to Colorado with her family when she was a very young girl. The family included five girls and one boy. Alice's father was killed in a motor car accident in 1919, just five days after her sister Marjorie was born. On June 13, 1929, Alice married Frank D. Monteith. To that union two sons and one daughter were born. The family moved around a lot at first, finally settling in Haxtun in 1933. Alice's hobbies included sewing, roller skating and shopping for shoes. She was a skilled cosmetologist who had her own beauty salon in her home. She was a member of the Haxtun Commercial Club and the Haxtun United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Gleeola Joy Lousberg and husband Edward, Arvada; sons Robert Gene Monteith and wife Florence, Helendale, CA, and Charles E. Monteith and wife Pauline, Salinas, CA; sisters, Lois Howard, Denver, and Margaret B. Schoonover, Valley Hills, KS; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her husband Frank Monteith. Funeral services were conducted on April 29, 2000, at the Haxtun United Methodist Church, Haxtun, with Rev. Thomas Cross officiating. Burial followed at Haxtun Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Alice's name to Haxtun Schools for a student in need of college assistance.
